Dairy Ilse Roadside Stand Dairy Ilse Roadside Stand
Dairy Isle Roadside Stand
Arrington, Virginia

The Dairy Isle chain was established in Wooster, Ohio, in 1951. Its roadside stands were distinguished by giant ice cream cones piercing the roof, a design feature created by Clarence S. Shank. Buildings were shipped as pre-fab kits for the owner to assemble on site. Today, as Colleen’s Drive In, you can still get the best ice cream around. Of the more than 160 Dairy Isle stands that were built, more than 40 remain in the Midwest and Northeast and a few in the South.
