Three Seat Privy, Burleigh Plantation Three Seat Privy, Burleigh Plantation
Three Seat Privy, Burleigh Plantation
Person County, North Carolina

A three-seat privy was considered in some circles to be the height of luxury – a comfortably sized space for men, women and children. Perhaps the origins of our basic bathroom stalls? Burleigh was built around 1840 for Thomas Jeffreys McGehee. The noted cabinetmaker Thomas Day designed and built portions of the main house, including the stairways.
