North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Co.

NC Mutual was one of the most influential African-American businesses in the US. Built in 1965 and designed by Welton Becket, architect of the iconic Capitol Records Building in L.A., the original building with cantilevered corners failed and had to be reinforced. My rendering is as it was originally. Working on this made me re-examine my feelings about certain styles, in this case Brutalism, and lead others to “look again.”
