Ayr Mount
Hillsborough, North Carolina

A plantation house built in 1815 by William Kirkland, who named the house after his birthplace in Scotland. It was the first major brick residence in the area that had mostly wood frame houses– its ceiling heights of 14' were unusual for the time. The Kirkland family lived in the house until 1985 when Richard Jenrette purchased it and restored it to its former glory.
