Row Houses
Washington DCRow houses, popular in Capitol Hill and other parts of DC by the end of the 19th century, were built in response to space restrictions–and were easier to build without elevators, common areas and garages. They were located for a growing population to take advantage of urban districts and amenities including offices, transit, shopping areas and parks. An early example of row house construction is the Place des Vosges in Paris, a really fine realization of urban city planning.
